Softbank India’s Manoj Kohli, M.P’s Jaya Bachchan and Poonam Mahajan launch a 21st century workplace skills accelerator - Nimaya, for girls from under-resourced communities.

Nimaya is a joint initiative by Navya Nanda’s Project Naveli and Entrepreneur Samyak Chakrabarty’s X Billion Skills Lab with the support of the United Nations as a cause partner. As technology and innovative business models transform the workplace - employers now give preference in hiring entry level candidates who are "smart generalists" and are trained in applying non-technical workplace skills in order to be able to deliver above and beyond their technical or academic specialization. In-fact , as automation or algorithms take up rote tasks, all job roles of the future will require application of abilities such as emotional intelligence, creative thinking, problem solving, negotiation, collaboration, storytelling, critical thinking and entrepreneurship. Institutions like the World Economic Forum name these as amongst the top 10 job skills of the future. In-fact Recognizing their importance in building a future ready workforce - the government of India has laid special emphasis on training students in these skills in the new National Education Policy. The accelerator will identify high potential girls from lower income communities who will receive training in 21st century workplace skills through a structured e-learning program which includes animated modules, masterclasses with 50+ CEOs & HR leaders, a live project and psychometric assessments. All high performing candidates will also receive placement support. “We want to change the notion that girls from under-resourced communities can only limit their dreams to rote jobs. A girl from a slum should also be able to get access to aspirational roles. However, the hard truth is that hiring criterias are evolving and employers seek smart generalists who can work beyond their technical or academic competencies. Unfortunately graduates from lower income groups and Category B or C institutions do not get the required training to compete with their counterparts from elite institutions for meaningful jobs in emerging startups or SMEs. Through Nimaya we want to provide high quality exposure in new age soft skills to women so that they can compete and qualify for building careers in the new world of work.” Navya Nanda and Samyak Chakrabarty (Co-Founders).
