“Pushpa will ensure that mothers do not feel ‘Abla’ anymore!” - Naveen Pandita on Sony SAB’s latest show Pushpa Impossible
How does it feel to be associated with Sony SAB’s Pushpa Impossible?
Amazing! In fact, this is my second association. I did a brief cameo in Tenali Rama as Akbar a few years ago with Sony Sab. I have really liked working with Sony Sab because every show is colorful and every show has a unique appeal. I am grateful that I am a part of it!
What intrigued you about the show?
Pushpa Impossible is not your regular daily soap. It has an aim to inspire and provoke women to better their lives. Pushpa is not like the stereotypical Indian mothers they portray in shows, it gives her an edge. She is a multitasker but not a ‘bechari’ maa doing it all; she is doing everything with self-confidence which is often lacking in the good ol’ representation of Indian Mothers on T.V. I liked that aspect of the story. I am sure, the show will create ripples in the society and even if one woman benefits from the show, it is a huge deal for us.
Share something about your character. How much do you relate to it?
One quality that immediately hits my mind is a sense of responsibility. Ashwin and I are alike in that terms. However, Ashwin’s responsibilities are dimming him down, and he lacks scope for personal growth and time whereas I consider myself privileged in that area with god’s grace.
How is Pushpa Impossible going to be different from all the previous mother-centric Tv serials in India?
As I told you she doesn't have support from anyone. It's like she is managing it all like a lioness in the jungle of life. She is headstrong, feisty and not afraid of starting out fresh. There are very few people out there who share the same zeal in life. I have done so many scenes that will be established once the show goes on air, so watch out!
How did you prepare for this role?
Darshan and I gave over 7 mock shoots right in the beginning. With each shoot, layers of the character started unfolding one by one and trait by trait! I got to introduce and consume Ashwin into my system. I think some of Ashwin is still left for me to grasp. My character is relatively calm as compared to Pushpa and Chirag who are quite exuberant as characters. The delivery is subtle for me, so I am working on it.
What will the audience love about Pushpa Impossible, according to you?
Mothers are not going to be ‘Abla’ anymore! The audience is going to be shaken to their core. She is that fierce!
Do you think formal education is important to achieve success in life?
Yes, to some extent. However, in the era of the internet where every piece of information is just one click away, I think knowledge is not hard to achieve. Although one should know some math to survive.
Any woman personality who has inspired you?
I come from a humble background, so I have to say it's always been my mother. I used to be an engineer before. So, the courage to leave my safety nest behind and try my luck in acting comes from her. She has always given me moral support and my survival in the creative field was also funded by her to a great extent.
You are playing a character that every mother would like, are you a momma's boy in real life too?
I have been whooped by my father enough to not be a Dad’s chap so I am a Momma’s boy. I think that applies to most Indian men. Nonetheless, I love both my parents equally and to them, I am still a child.
Have you ever had a moment that was embarrassing but now you understand your parents because you are an adult now?
As I said, I used to get punished a lot of times during my childhood. Sometimes for no reason. I will not do it to my kids. But, on the other hand, I do understand why it is important to discipline your children right from the beginning. You already know what they say- Teach them young!
