Hailed as one of the leading progressive writers in the industry, Kanika Dhillon is known for crafting some of the strong female characters on screen. Having a master's degree from the London School of Economics, the ace writer embarked on her journey as a script supervisor at Red Chillies Entertainment.
Later, Kanika wrote the screenplay and dialogues for the 2011 blockbuster film Ra One, starring Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. In 2018, the celebrated writer impressed everyone with her modern age love story, Manmarziyaan, featuring Taapsee Pannu, Abhishek Bachchan, and Vicky Kaushal.
In the same year, Kanika gave yet another powerful story, Kedarnath with Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan in the lead. While making sure to craft a universe against the current socio-political scenario, the author tackled the issue of mental health with Judgemental Hai Kya in 2019, featuring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao and the #MeToo movement with Guilty in 2020, headlined by Kiara Advani.
Kanika has also authored three books, Bombay Duck is a Fish (2011), Shiva and the Rise of the Shadows (2013), and the drama The Dance of Durga (2016).
Kanika garnered the lion's share of praise for her gripping storyline and powerful dialogues in the murder mystery 'Haseen Dillruba'. Notably, the film, starring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey, trended Number One on Netflix as soon as it was released, across borders, including India, the UK, Pakistan, and UAE - to name a few. The star writer's whodunit drama became the most-watched film of 2021 on the streaming platform.
Kickstarting a positive trend for the screenwriters, Kanika became the first writer to get the top billing in the Netflix trailer. Later in the year, the writer collaborated with Taapsee Pannu again for Rocket Rashmi, which became a massive hit among the audience and critics alike.
The noted screenwriter now has Raksha Bandhan with Himanshu Sharma and an untitled next with Rajkumar Hirani in the pipeline.
